Xpeng G9L interior revealed ahead of Australian launch

The interior of the Xpeng G9L large SUV has been unveiled ahead of its scheduled November 2026 arrival in Australia as part of the Chinese brand's local relaunch.

Similar in size to the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX90 large electric SUVs, the five-seat, five-door G9L measures 5120mm long, 1999mm wide and up to 1795mm tall on a 3100mm wheelbase, and is expected to arrive in Australia only weeks after it goes on sale in China.

It will sit below the six- and seven-seat Xpeng GX SUV, which is due to arrive in Australia sometime in 2027.

Australian pricing and specifications for the G9L have yet to be announced.

The G9L will be offered here with both battery-electric (EV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrains, sharing the same 800V architecture, although Xpeng has yet to confirm whether Australia will receive both rear- and all-wheel drive variants.

Xpeng has released the first images of the G9L's spacious cabin, finished in Sahara Orange leather with a star-pattern motif and a panoramic glass roof as part of what it calls its 'Starry Universe First-Class Cabin'.

The G9L features power-operated doors as well as Zero Gravity seats designed to reduce occupant fatigue. The front seats offer massage, heating and ventilation, while the front passenger seat can fold completely flat.

Ahead of the driver is an 88-inch augmented reality head-up display and a 9.0-inch digital rear-view mirror, while a 15.6-inch central touchscreen sits above a floating centre console housing twin 50W wireless phone chargers.

Emphasising its luxury credentials, Xpeng claims the G9L has the largest second row in its class. It features a 'smart executive console' incorporating a 12.5-litre voice-controlled refrigerator and a 21.4-inch rear entertainment touchscreen.

The entry-level G9L EREV in China pairs a 110kW/210Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, used solely as a generator, with a rear-mounted 210kW/465Nm electric motor driving the rear wheels through a single-speed transmission.

It uses a 63.3kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for a claimed electric-only driving range of 350km (WLTC). The all-wheel-drive version uses the same petrol engine but adds a second electric motor for a combined 370kW and a 325km WLTC electric-only range.

The battery-electric range starts with a rear-wheel-drive model producing 270kW (torque has yet to be announced), powered by a 91.9kWh LFP battery delivering a claimed 672km CLTC range. A larger 110kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery increases the claimed range to up to 805km.

The flagship all-wheel-drive G9L EV produces 430kW and is offered with the same choice of battery packs, delivering claimed CLTC driving ranges of 635km and 750km respectively. Xpeng says the 800V electrical architecture allows for up to 450km of range to be added in around nine minutes under ideal conditions.

All variants feature double-wishbone front suspension, multi-link rear suspension, and 22-inch alloy wheels.

The G9L will arrive as Xpeng relaunches in Australia after initially entering the market through TrueEV in 2024, with the distributor offering the mid-size G6 electric SUV.

Xpeng launched direct Australian distribution earlier this year, resulting in an ongoing legal dispute with TrueEV, and has since outlined an expanded local model rollout under its factory-backed operation.

In addition to the G9L and GX SUVs, Xpeng Australia has confirmed the X9 people mover, due by the end of September 2026, the L03 mid-size SUV in November, and the L05 SUV in early 2027.

The automaker is also evaluating the second-generation P7 for Australia, although it has yet to confirm the striking electric liftback for local showrooms.
