2026 Xpeng X9 prices: Futuristic EV enters growing luxury people mover segment

The Xpeng X9 EV people mover is arriving shortly, with a base price under $90,000 before on-roads and a raft of standard kit including air suspension.

Chinese brands are breathing new life into the people mover segment in Australia, with Xpeng now throwing its hat into the ring.

The Xpeng X9 is now available to order, with customer deliveries to commence "shortly" for the electric people mover.

It's priced at $89,900 before on-road costs in FWD Standard Range guise, with the AWD Performance priced at $109,900 before on-road costs.

The X9 is being distributed by factory-backed Xpeng ANZ, which is busily establishing its own network of dealerships in Australia after the Xpeng brand initially touched down here in 2024 under local distributor TrueEV.

Xpeng ANZ will back the X9 with a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty for private owners (seven years or 160,000km for commercial users), as well as an eight-year/160,000km warranty for its battery and electric motors.

There's also a separate five-year, unlimited-kilometre paint warranty and a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty for anti-corrosion and anti-rust. Servicing is required every 12 months or 20,000km, whichever comes first, though service pricing has yet to be announced.

All X9s feature an 800V electrical architecture, 11kW AC charging and 6kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, with the Standard Range coming with a 94.8kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and the AWD Performance offering a 110kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery – the latter offering a peak DC charge rate of 542kW and a 10-80 per cent recharge time of as little as 12 minutes.

Range on the WLTP cycle is 535km in the Standard Range and 580km in the AWD Performance.

All X9s feature standard active rear-wheel steering to improve manoeuvrability, as well as dual-chamber air suspension.

The AWD Performance produces 370kW of power and 640Nm of torque, with a 0-100km/h time of 5.9 seconds. Outputs haven't been released for the base FWD Standard Range.

The drag coefficient is a slippery 0.236, but while it looks less boxy than rivals like the Denza D9 and Zeekr 009, Xpeng has ensured the X9 still has a spacious cabin.

There's 721L of boot space with all three rows up, which Xpeng says is enough to allow seven 20-inch carry-on suitcases to be stored in the back. Cargo space rises to 2554L with the second and third rows dropped.

That third row is heated, while the second row features the brand's Zero Gravity seats with 14-way power adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage.

Seats are upholstered in Nappa leather, while other niceties include a panoramic glass roof, a refrigerator that can be adjusted from 0 to 50°C, a 21.4-inch rear entertainment display, a 27-speaker Xopera sound system, five-zone climate control, and dual 50W wireless phone chargers.

There's also a 17.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system up front with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 21-inch head-up display.

The X9 will be offered with 12 months of unlimited data for entertainment services, with no limit to access for satellite navigation and over-the-air software updates.

The Xpilot Assist suite of active safety and driver assist technology is powered by Xpeng's in-house AI Turing Chip, and includes features such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and lane centring.

Other safety equipment includes nine airbags and a surround-view camera system with a transparent chassis view.

A semi-autonomous parking assist system allows the vehicle to be parked from outside.

The X9 will be available in six exterior colours: Midnight Black, Arctic White, Lambent Cyan, Silver Frost, Matte Grey and Polar Violet.

There will be three interior colourways: Meteorite Black, Coffee, and a two-tone treatment which features Rose Brown colouring on the dashboard, doors and lower parts of the seats.

The X9 has two direct rivals in the Denza D9, priced at $88,185 before on-roads in front-wheel drive guise and $97,123 plus on-roads with dual-motor all-wheel drive, and the Zeekr 009 which opens at $115,900 plus on-roads with front-wheel drive and between $135,900 and $139,900 plus on-roads with all-wheel drive.

GAC also has the cheaper plug-in hybrid M8, while GWM is set to launch a luxurious people mover this year under its Wey sub-brand.
