Volkswagen Australia is teaming up with Ampol, best known for its petrol stations, to offer home charging options for its plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles.
It’ll be offering discounted AmpCharge wall boxes for Touareg R buyers, including installation, and 12 months’ worth of cheaper public charging at Ampol locations – exactly how much cheaper hasn’t been confirmed.
Volkswagen says the home chargers will be available in a range of colours to match its cars, and says owners can use an AR tool to see how a wall box will fit in their garage before an installer arrives.

Also aligned with the cars is the warranty for the wall boxes – they’ll be covered for five years.
Along with the Touareg R PHEV, the partnership will be extended to buyers of the upcoming ID range of electric cars.
Volkswagen is gearing up to welcome the ID.4 and ID.5 electric cars to Australia.

Orders for the EV pair will open in June or July this year, with the first arrivals set for the final quarter of 2024.
When the Golf-sized ID.3 will touch down isn’t locked in, but may now blow out to 2025.
