The Volkswagen ID.4 mid-size electric SUV has been updated for 2027 with a bigger battery for the entry-level model, cabin upgrades and additional driver assistance technology, alongside $1000 price rises for both Pro and GTX model grades.
The automaker has confirmed the ID. Tiguan – due to be revealed on October 9, 2026 – will replace the ID.4 and its ID.5 twin, though local launch timing has yet to be announced.
This hasn't stopped an upgraded 2027 model-year (MY27) version of the outgoing ID.4 arriving in Australian showrooms, as Volkswagen looks to capitalise on sales growth in the electric SUV market alongside rivals including the Tesla Model Y, Zeekr 7X and BYD Sealion 7.
Volkswagen Australia is currently offering the MY27 ID.4 Pro from $65,990 drive-away, while the flagship MY27 ID.4 GTX is advertised from $75,990 drive-away. Both have received $1000 increases to their standard list prices compared with previous models.

Officially starting at $60,990 before on-road costs, the rear-wheel drive ID.4 Pro comes with a new 'Innovision' infotainment system, bringing previously absent built-in satellite navigation to the same-sized 12.9-inch central touchscreen.
The update also brings physical buttons back to the ID.4's three-spoke steering wheel, addressing a key area Volkswagen pledged to improve on future models following considerable customer criticism of its touch-sensitive controls.
The addition of satellite navigation brings more functionality to 'ID.Light', which provides visual prompts via an LED strip at the base of the windscreen, including animated directional cues for upcoming turns.
The new 'Atmospheres' function, part of Driving Experience Selection, also allows occupants to personalise the cabin environment through coordinated adjustments to ambient lighting and other comfort settings.

For 2027, the ID.4 Pro gets a larger 84kWh lithium-ion battery, up from the previous 82kWh pack, with its claimed driving range increasing by 2km to 546km on the WLTP cycle.
The range-topping all-wheel drive GTX, which now has a list price of $70,990 before on-road costs, uses an 82kWh battery but gains 11km of claimed range, increasing to 522km WLTP.
Both Pro and GTX model grades retain their previous maximum 175kW DC fast-charging capability.
The Pro retains its 210kW/545Nm electric motor and 6.7-second 0-100km/h acceleration time despite a 39kg weight reduction, while the GTX is 42kg lighter but retains its 250kW/679Nm dual-motor powertrain and 5.4-second 0-100km/h time.

The MY27 changes also bring additional driver assistance technology, including traffic sign recognition, predictive speed limiting and front cross-traffic assist across the range.
The predictive speed limiter works with adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition to automatically adjust the vehicle's speed in response to changing speed limits.
The Area View surround-view camera system has also been upgraded with optimised parking guidance and wheel protection functionality.
Volkswagen's Proactive Occupant Protection System continues to be standard. It can automatically tighten the front seatbelts and close open windows if the vehicle detects an imminent collision or critical driving situation.

The ID.4 only launched in Australia in July 2025, having been on sale in Europe since late 2020, meaning the first versions sold here had already received a major update introduced overseas in 2023.
Volkswagen's best-selling EV in Australia year-to-date – although outsold by the ID. Buzz electric people mover in September – the ID.4 has recorded an 86.6 per cent sales increase in 2026, with 1360 sold between January and September compared with 729 over the same period in 2025.
| Model | Price before on-road costs | Drive-away price (until December 31, 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Volkswagen ID.4 Pro | $60,990 (+$1000) | $65,990 |
| Volkswagen ID.4 GTX | $70,990 (+$1000) | $75,990 |
