Victorian police officer charged with repeatedly driving on a suspended licence

Victoria Police has charged one of its own senior constables after he allegedly drove on a suspended licence while off duty earlier this year.

The 42-year old “leading senior constable” from the North-West Metro Region was charged with four counts of ‘drive whilst suspended’ earlier this week.

According to Victoria Police, the officer was off duty when he committed the offences between February 20 and 21, 2024.

The senior constable will face court at a later date.

Victoria Legal Aid reports the maximum penalty for drive while suspended by Fines Victoria is a fine of 10 penalty units, which – until June 30 – are valued at $192.31 each.

It’s the latest instance of a Victorian police officer finding themselves in hot water over driving offences.

Earlier this year, Glenn Weir, Victoria’s Road Policing Assistant Commissioner, was snapped by a hidden speed camera on February 29, while driving an unmarked police vehicle at 58km/h in a 50km/h zone.

The senior Victoria Police member announced he would accept the $337 fine and single demerit point penalty, despite being eligible to have the charge downgraded to a warning on account of his good driving record.
