What happens when two German super sedans are exposed to the electric future? They get a bit… drifty.

Videos posted on Instagram by ericzangk show a Mercedes-AMG E63 S and a BMW M5 cutting shapes around a Tesla showroom in China, V8 engines blaring and tyres smoking.

Unlike the Tesla range, the E63 and M5 are powered by turbocharged V8 petrol engines… for now. As some commenters have pointed out, both brands are moving to plug-in hybrid power in the future.

The original poster’s feed is full of photos and videos of him driving expensive, fast cars – and race cars – but it’s not clear if he’s behind the wheel of the AMG or M5 featured in these videos.

What does appear to be the case, however, is the Tesla staff are in on the act. There’s no real sense of concern as the V8 super sedans slide around the entry to the showroom.

Tesla fans have also pointed out the brand’s fastest electric cars are faster in a straight line than the AMG and BMW.
