Volkswagen Australia says the most expensive members of its Amarok family are experiencing the longest waits, but overall supply for the new-generation ute range is strong.

PanAmericana and Aventura variants are experiencing average wait times of 6-9 months, but Volkswagen is working to secure additional production.

The V6-powered Style TDI600 is currently the most popular Amarok variant, accounting for around half of all volume – thanks to a combination of both strong supply for it, but weaker supply for the PanAmericana and Aventura.

According to the company, the Life TDI500 and Style TDI500 have “by far the strongest supply for the rest of 2023” and are available for immediate delivery, with plenty of deliveries to dealers.

“Strong production of Amarok continues for Australia,” said a spokesperson for Volkswagen Australia.

“As has been widely publicised across the industry, there are widespread transport and shipping delays that may result in some stock anticipated for 2023 falling into 2024.

“It simply means the ~3 weeks from South Africa to Perth is proving longer given both ship and then port delays accumulate.”

It cautions stock may vary from Volkswagen dealership to dealership, and customers should check with their preferred dealer.

Overall, Volkswagen has delivered around 2500 new-generation Amaroks through to mid-September, which it says is on target.

The first examples of the second-generation Amarok arrived in May, with a staggered rollout.

Volkswagen is weighing adding a turbo-diesel V6 – a popular option on both this generation and its predecessor – as an option for the base Core.

It’s also weighing a long-wheelbase version, along with more safety kit for the base Core.

It has, however, already discontinued the base Core manual, of which only small quantities were brought in. The local Amarok range is now auto-only, as with the related Ford Ranger.
