Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said the new Cybertruck’s body is bulletproof, but one YouTuber – understandably – didn’t want to just take his word for it.
JerryRigEverything took a Cybertruck out to a snowy field along with a bunch of guns: a .22, a .17, a few 9mm handguns, and even a .50 calibre rifle.
You’ll need to watch the video to see the full results, but Mr Musk’s claim the Cybertruck is resistant to a round from a 9mm handgun proved true.
While the outspoken CEO didn’t claim it could withstand gunfire from a .50 cal rifle, JerryRigEverything decided to fire a round from one into the Cybertruck anyway – revealing even this burly, stainless steel-bodied ute won’t get you through a warzone unscathed.
The YouTuber also noted the armoured glass initially proposed for the Cybertruck never eventuated, so the windows are “definitely not bulletproof, in any way, shape or form”.
Tesla already put the Cybertruck through ballistics testing of its own last year, unloading everything from a handgun up to a 12-gauge shotgun into the ute.
