Tesla celebrates major Supercharger milestone in Australia

Tesla is all set to open its 100th Supercharger in Australia, and it’s commemorating the occasion with a small celebratory event.

The charger unit, located at the Tesla Supercharger in Glenelg, South Australia, has been spotted sporting a patriotic green and gold livery with a small badge to signify that it is, in fact, number 100.

It’s set to officially open at 10am on Thursday, September 19, forming part of the Glenelg Supercharger complex on Partridge Street.

Tesla’s rollout of Superchargers has been slower than some other countries. The first opened late in 2014 in the Sydney suburb of Pyrmont.

While faster Tesla V4 Superchargers began arriving in Australia earlier this year, the charging station at Glenelg appears to be populated by only V3 chargers – including the commemorative 100th unit.

The V4 Superchargers offer the same peak charge rates of up to 250kW as the V3 units, but Tesla claims this will increase to 350kW in the future.

Tesla says the chargers at Glenelg will be followed by further South Australian stations in Bordertown, Norwood and Port Augusta, as decided by a public vote.

The company has previously confirmed it’s committed to continuing the expansion of its Supercharger network in Australia despite recent high-profile layoffs overseas, and said projects currently in construction are continuing to be completed and put into operation.
