Ram Trucks Australia pushes for more 1500 TRX supply as it eyes V8 Rumble Bee

Australian orders for the 2027 Ram 1500 TRX SRT have exceeded expectations, prompting Ram Trucks Australia to push for more supply from the US.

Scheduled to arrive in Australia in early 2027, the ‘apex predator’ TRX uses a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 producing 579kW and 922Nm.

Ram claims it can propel the dual-cab pickup from 0-97km/h in 3.5 seconds, making it one of the world’s quickest petrol-powered production pickups.

Australian versions are priced from $259,950 before on-road costs. Order books opened in August 2026, following the previous TRX Final Edition offered here for the 2024 model year.

“The response from customers has blown us away,” Ram Trucks Australia general manager Jeff Barber said at a press conference in Melbourne.

“Customer orders have exceeded our expectations, and we will struggle to meet demand for a while.

“We expect first arrivals and first deliveries in Q1 [January to March] of next year.

“We have a limited number of TRXs coming out of the factory this year, but we are working around the clock to try to secure more allocation.

“The challenge for us is that demand for TRXs is off the charts in the US. But rest assured, our friends at Ram Trucks USA are very aware of the demand here for that vehicle.”

The 2027 Ram 1500 TRX SRT is manufactured at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan.

Although model-specific US sales figures haven't been reported, Ram parent company Stellantis listed the new TRX among models contributing to a 38 per cent year-on-year increase in North American shipments between April and June 2026.

“We brought it back, and it’s very popular,” Amy Augustine, Ram Trucks International head of product and sales, told CarExpert. “We’re working into getting as much allocation as everybody wants. And so we are, even with the popularity in the United States, we still feel as though we’re working on everybody getting their fair share. And so we’re constantly working on that and making sure that everyone can get that product.”

"The first time round it felt like well over 12 months between the launch in the US and when we got production for Australia. This time around it’s two months, so that shows a degree of support we're getting from Amy and the rest of the US,” said Mr Barber.

The TRX is coming as Ram Trucks Australia reintroduces Hemi V8 models to local showrooms following the end of Australian conversion of the previous V8-powered Ram 1500 in December 2024.

The new Ram 2500 Warlock uses a naturally aspirated 6.4-litre Hemi petrol V8, which the company says responds to demand for both Hemi power and the larger 2500 body.

Mr Barber said Australian 1500 buyers seeking V8 power typically also wanted the additional equipment offered by high-performance models such as the TRX, suggesting the strongest demand was at the performance end of the range.

The TRX could eventually be joined in Australia by the even quicker Ram 1500 Rumble Bee SRT, another V8-powered performance model unveiled in the US earlier this year, boasting a 3.4-second 0-97km/h time.

The Rumble Bee SRT – one of a range of V8-powered 1500 Rumble Bee variants – hasn't been locked in for Australia, but Ram Trucks Australia is discussing a potential local introduction with its US parent.

“As of today, the Rumble Bee is not confirmed for our market, but we can confirm we are in talks with the factory about securing the application for Australia,” Mr Barber said.

“It’s too early to speculate on which of the Rumble Bees we’d take. There’s a 5.7 [litre V8], a 6.4, a 6.4 Track [with chassis upgrades] and a 6.2 supercharged [SRT model] – that’s the one with the TRX engine.

“But all that is part of the process we’re going through at present: determining which Rumble Bee best suits the Australian customer.”

“We think no matter which one or ones we bring to market, they will be a hit. Australia has a deep history of high-performance utes, and we know Ram 1500 Rumble Bee would be right at home here."
