American Special Vehicles has recalled 1361 examples of the 2020-2023 Ram 2500 and 3500 due to a transmission issue.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the transmission may experience a build-up of pressure and heat causing transmission fluid to leak,” the company says in its recall notice.

“A transmission fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a vehicle fire.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

This is the second recall issued this week for a potential fire risk in the Ram 2500 and 3500.

American Special Vehicles recalled 1902 examples of its 2021-22 Ram 2500 and 3500 as an electrical short may occur with the air heater intake, potentially sparking a fire – even if the ignition is off.

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to contact an authorised Ram dealer to have the vehicle inspected and, if required, have the air heater relay replaced, free of charge.

If you have any further questions, you can contact Ram Trucks Customer Assist on 1300 681 792.
