Mercedes-Benz is recalling its redesigned S580 as it may turn off and not turn back on.

“Due to a software issue the engine may turn off without warning and it may also prevent the vehicle from being restarted,” the company says in its recall notice.

“A sudden loss of engine power increases the risk of an accident and injury or death to vehicle occupants or other road users.”

A similar issue has also affected 204 examples of the 2021 C-Class.

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to contact a Mercedes-Benz dealership to organise a free inspection or repair.

If you have any further questions, you can contact Mercedes-Benz’s customer service centre on 1300 300 896.
