Genesis Australia is recalling early examples of its G70 and G80 sedans as a manufacturing defect could result in a fire.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the sealing of the starter motor may be insufficient allowing moisture to enter into the unit,” the company says in its recall notice.
“If this occurs, it could cause a short circuit leading to a vehicle engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders and/or damage to property.”

Genesis says affected vehicles should be parked in an open space and away from flammable materials and structures until the starter motor can be replaced.
That means owners shouldn’t park their vehicles in a garage.
Earlier examples of the G80, which were badged as the Hyundai Genesis, have also been recalled.

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with an authorised Genesis dealership to have the starter motor replaced, free of charge.
If you have any further queries, you can contact Genesis on 1800 908 070.
