Cupra Terramar recalled

Cupra Australia is recalling the Terramar mid-size SUV due to issues with both its electric power steering system and its advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

"Due to a software issue, under certain driving conditions the electric power steering system may become temporarily inoperable," the company says in its recall notice.

"Should this occur, steering will remain functional. However, the driver may experience a noticeable increase in steering effort, particularly when cornering.

"Additionally, if the driver does not have their hands on the steering wheel for an extended period, the brake jolt triggered by the Emergency Assist (EA) or Travel Assist (TA) assistance functions meant to alert the driver occurs may be misinterpreted as the driver braking. As a result, the Emergency Assist (EA) or Travel Assist (TA) assistance functions are deactivated.

"Note: The instrument cluster may fail to illuminate the visual and audible warnings that the safety functions are deactivated.

"A sudden increase in steering effort and/or a loss of safety functions could increase the risk of an accident-causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users."

If you own an affected vehicle, you'll need to schedule an appointment with an authorised dealer to have the Terramar's software updated, free of charge.
