The big news for BMW M in 2024 is a new-generation M5, but the rest of the performance division’s line-up is getting attention, too.
BMW M boss Frank van Meel has confirmed on Instagram there’s an “upcoming model revision” for the M2, M3 and M4 due in 2024.
The company had previously confirmed only updated M3 and M4 models, the latter of which will gain a hot CS variant.

The M2 is the newest of this trio, having only been launched in 2023, but BMW Blog reports it’s already getting a bump in power.
The updated model’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six will reportedly produce 353kW of power, up from 338kW in the current car, but won’t gain the Competition suffix.
It’s unclear what other changes will come to BMW’s entry-level sports coupe.
While Mr van Meel didn’t confirm any new M2 variants, a prototype was spied testing in 2023 with a more prominent spoiler, restyled front bumper and wider wheels, potentially pointing to a hot CS variant.
The revised M3 and M4 have also already been spied by photographers and wear restyled headlights, and BMW Blog reports versions with the xDrive all-wheel drive system could see a bump in power of 11kW to 386kW.
The updates also apply to the recently introduced M3 Touring.
A hot CS will join the M4 line-up, likely following a similar formula to the M3.
Unlike the hardcore and strictly limited M4 CSL, which cut weight by 100kg, thanks in part to the removal of the rear seats and was rear-wheel drive only, the M4 CS is expected to score all-wheel drive with the same 405kW/650Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six and feature the M3 CS’s retuned chassis and extensive use of carbon-fibre.

BMW sold 202,530 M vehicles globally in 2023, accounting for 9.0 per cent of all BMW sales, though this figure includes not only the more extreme M models like the M3 but also M Performance models like the i4 M50.
The latter was BMW M’s best seller, though the M3 Sedan was the most popular of the division’s more hardcore products.
The new M5 range – including a resurrected Touring variant – won’t be the only new-generation product launched by BMW M this year.
The division is also readying a wagon version of its M Performance i5 M60.
