2027 Polestar 4 SUV: More practical mid-size electric SUV due in Australia this year

The new Polestar 4 'SUV' has been teased once more by the Swedish automaker today, ahead of global sales commencing on September 2, 2026.

Deliveries of the more practical new variant are expected to commence "before the end of the year", and this will be the first model from the Geely-owned brand to arrive in Australia from Polestar's facility in Busan, South Korea.

Full pricing and specifications are still to be announced, but reading between the lines we're expecting a similar lineup to the existing Polestar 4 'coupé', which currently offers Rear motor and Dual motor variants in Australia.

Polestar says the new 4 SUV will offer up to 630km of WLTP-certified range in Rear motor guise, while Dual motor versions will boast 400kW of power, just like coupé versions.

The new variant has been confirmed to utilise the same changes rolled out for the MY27 Polestar 4 coupé, which include a recalibrated chassis, with significant suspension revisions including new spring rates, high-capacity dampers and revised anti-roll bar settings.

Combined with a new steering tune, Polestar said in a statement the chassis tweaks are intended to bring a “more controlled ride” and improve both comfort and agility.

Further, the longer and higher roofline offers "added layer of flexibility and practicality, with versatile storage capabilities for every journey". There's also a conventional rear window, unlike in the coupé where drivers must rely solely on an HD camera-based digital rear-view mirror.

Earlier this year, Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller said of the new model: "With this car, Polestar will once again set new standards".

"Sweden is famous for its estate cars, and its SUVs are world-class. We are combining the space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV with the dynamic performance that is Polestar," Mr Lohscheller added.

While the Polestar 4 coupé is sourced from the company's Ningbo factory in China for Australia, the Polestar 4 SUV is only confirmed to hail from Polestar's Busan factory in South Korea, which already produces the 4 coupé for other overseas markets.

It will mark the first time the brand's local division has taken vehicles from outside of China, despite the larger Polestar 3 SUV also being made in South Carolina, USA for select markets.

The Polestar 4 range is based on the Geely Holding Group's Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA1) dedicated EV platform, developed by sister company Zeekr.

It shares its underpinnings with the likes of the closely related Zeekr 001 electric shooting brake, as well as the 009 EV MPV and its Volvo EM90 cousin sold overseas.
