2026 CarExpert Choice winner: Best Luxury Sports Car

The Chevrolet Corvette has been named Australia’s best luxury sports car in the 2026 CarExpert Choice Awards, the second year in a row it has won this award.

It beat out two finalists: the BMW M2 and Porsche 911.

While price isn't the primary consideration in the rarefied air of the high-end sports car segment, it's hard to ignore the fact you can buy a genuine mid-engined supercar from General Motors for around $100,000 less than even the most affordable Porsche 911.

The Corvette mightn't be offered with the dizzying array of varieties as the 911, and its local lineup is smaller than in the US market too, but you can still get this American supercar in three very different flavours.

The Z06 is the most track-focused and features a flat-plane crank V8, while the Stingray is the affordable – for a supercar – entry point to the lineup with its big-bore pushrod V8. Then there's the E-Ray, which takes this V8 and adds an electric motor, making it the first hybrid and first all-wheel drive Corvette.

Regardless of the variant, the Corvette is a thrill to drive thanks to razor-sharp handling, communicative steering and superb brakes. Despite this, it's surprisingly liveable too.

The cherry on top is the overhauled interior, launched for 2026, which maintains the style of the pre-update model's cabin but receives upgraded technology and improved usability.

The Chevrolet Corvette more than holds its own with Europe's finest, and it does so for a much more palatable price and with its own unique style. That makes it a winner in our books.
