The new generation Nissan Patrol is edging closer to its official unveiling, after its Infiniti QX80 luxury twin was teased by the Japanese carmaker.

In a video uploaded to YouTube, Infiniti – the luxury division of Nissan – showed off the next-gen QX80 with dark lighting, only allowing the LED daytime running lights and illuminated grille badge to become visible.

However, thanks to some digital alterations, we can see a few additional features like short wheel arch mouldings, pop-out door handles and the outline of a large grille – though the latter’s design is expected to be exclusive to the Infiniti QX80.

Unfortunately there are no new details about the Nissan Patrol, but previous reports have suggested it will follow the Toyota LandCruiser’s lead and drop its V8 engine (a 5.6-litre petrol unit) for a smaller turbocharged V6.

The Nissan Patrol is expected to carry across the brand’s design language which has recently rolled out across new generations of the X-Trail and Pathfinder, becoming more rugged in its appearance than the outgoing model.

Given the current Patrol was launched in 2010 and has received relatively minor updates since, it’s understood the new large SUV will have a comprehensively reworked interior, complete with more modern features.

Previous reports have indicated the Nissan Patrol and Infiniti QX80 will be unveiled shortly before going on sale in the US around mid-2024, though Australian timing for the former is yet to be locked in.

While the Infiniti QX80 has been sold in Australia, it departed the local market along with the brand in 2019, leaving Nissan with no step-up equivalent to take on the Toyota LandCruiser’s more luxurious twin, the Lexus LX.
