Interested in a Volvo XC60?

Volvo has further electrified its XC60 range for 2022, with an updated, longer-range T8 Recharge plug-in hybrid joining the recently launched mild-hybrid B5 and B6 models.

The updated mild-hybrid models arrived in the third quarter of 2021, but deliveries of the updated Recharge plug-in hybrid are set to begin in March 2022 – hence why we’ve pulled this story forward.

UPDATE, 17/02/2022 – Volvo has introduced a new plug-in hybrid Recharge and confirmed pricing of the range. Prices are up slightly, however option packages have gotten incrementally cheaper. We’ve thoroughly updated this article and brought it forward.

The new Recharge replaces the Polestar Engineered. It offers 90km of pure electric range, up from 44km thanks to a new and larger capacity 18.8kWh battery.

There’s also more power and torque with total system outputs of 340kW and 709Nm, up 29kW and 39Nm. That also means a 0-100km/h time 0.3 seconds quicker than the old car, at 4.8 seconds.

At the same time, the Recharge is about $2700 cheaper than the shorter-range Polestar-branded model it replaces.

Though it’s quicker and goes further, the Recharge does lose some of the old Polestar Engineered’s sporty features, such as its gold highlights, Akebono brakes and Öhlins dampers.

Meanwhile, the previously revealed B5 and B6 models models pair a 48V mild-hybrid system with their turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines.

Cosmetic tweaks across the wider XC60 range include new bumpers front and rear, with greater differentiation between models. Exhaust outlets are also hidden.

The interior looks much the same as before, though there’s a new wireless charging pad positioned prominently on the centre console.

The touchscreen remains a 9.0-inch, portrait-oriented one, though it switches to the Android Automotive operating system.

That means you can receive over-the-air updates, download apps from Google Play, navigate using Google Maps, and use “Hey Google” as a voice prompt. USB-C outlets replace USB-A ones.

XC60 models now also feature a 71L fuel tank, up from 60L.

The B6 adds a supercharger, and has its outputs bumped up to 220kW and 420Nm. This reduces the 0-100km/h time to 6.2 seconds.

The plug-in hybrid T8 has total system outputs of 340kW of power and 709Nm of torque. It has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.8 seconds.
