The upcoming 2022 Ferrari Purosangue SUV mightn’t be the only crossover from the Prancing Horse brand.

Car reports it’ll be joined by all-electric SUVs, codenamed F244 and F245, in 2024 and 2026, respectively.

Ferrari’s new SUV architecture can accommodate up to four electric motors and an 80kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with Car claiming an initial output of 454kW of power.

The Purosangue (“thoroughbred”), as Ferrari’s first SUV will be called, will be launched with a conventional internal-combustion engine but an electrified option will follow.

It’ll initially be offered with an 596kW V12 engine when it debuts in early 2022 according to Car, to be followed by a hybrid V8.

An indirect replacement for the recently departed GTC4Lusso shooting brake, the Purosangue is intended to be even sportier than the likes of the Aston Martin DBX and Lamborghini Urus.

It’ll still offer what SUV buyers are after, chiefly a more practical cabin and a higher seating position, and will be the most practical Ferrari yet.

The Purosangue, codenamed F175, will seat four occupants and offer height-adjustable suspension.

Though it’ll be a front-engined model like the new Roma grand tourer, it’ll reportedly share its centre section with the Maranello brand’s mid-engined models.

The Roma and Purosangue’s front mid-engine architecture, as Ferrari calls it, is capable of supporting V6, V8 and V12 power. The dual-clutch transmission will be located at the rear to improve weight distribution.

While Ferrari has confirmed Purosangue is the name it wants to use for its first SUV, it’s not locked in yet.

It took a not-for-profit organisation called the Purosangue Foundation to court last year to secure the name, arguing the charity hadn’t made sufficient commercial use of the name to warrant exclusivity.
