The Peugeot 208 is a light hatchback that has been discontinued locally, reflecting Australia's move away from traditional city cars. It brought sharp exterior styling, a distinctive i-Cockpit interior and a more premium feel than many rivals in the class. The 208 suited urban drivers, first-car buyers and downsizers who wanted compact dimensions without a basic cabin presentation. Overseas it remains an important Peugeot model, including electric versions that show the brand's small-car future. In Australia, its appeal was always more about design and character than bargain pricing. The 208's departure leaves the 2008 small SUV to carry much of Peugeot's compact-car presence locally.
