The design of the seventh-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class seems to have been revealed in photos published on social media overnight.

Posted by the Cochespias Instagram account, the images are low resolution but seem to be authentic, as they match up with earlier spy photos.

The front end isn’t a radical departure from today’s car, although there may be more differences in sportier trim levels with less stately grille designs.

At the back the new S-Class has a angular strip of LED tail-lights stretching into the boot, much like the latest CLS and the recent E-Class facelift.

It’s inside, though, where the biggest changes have taken place. Gone is the large black rectangular slab containing the instrumentation display and infotainment touchscreen.

Ahead of the driver is a standalone digital instrumentation display, and the company’s newest steering wheel design with thin spokes and a small boss dominated by the three-pointed star logo.

Rising out of the centre console is a large portrait touchscreen, which looks as though it will contain most of the car’s commonly used functions, including audio, climate control and navigation.

The only physical buttons are on the steering wheel and a thin strip below the screen, as well as the engine stop/start switch.

Thin rectangular vents, piano black elements, metallic trim and leather all feature in the minimalist cabin.

Rumours indicate the new S-Class will be offered solely with straight-six and V8 hybrid drivetrains. The short wheelbase model will reportedly be dropped from the range.
