Wood you buy this timber Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen?

A Vietnamese YouTuber with too much time on his hands has built a full-size replica of the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen – out of wood.

ND-Woodworking Art is no stranger to creating some truly incredible pieces of timber-based automotive art, though this is perhaps the most realistic yet.

What started life as an early 1990s Mitsubishi Pajero was turned into a bare chassis, with pieces of wood formed to look like a G-Wagen slowly applied to the base.

We won’t spoil what happens throughout the video, because it’s worth taking the time to appreciate the 180 days of work that went into creating this tribute to one of the world’s most recognisable 4x4s.

It’s unclear just how much this wooden Wagen weighs.

At the end of the video, you can see it slowly driving around town. Despite the V8 Biturbo badging, there’s a Mitsubishi mill labouring under the bonnet – not that you’d want to be going all that fast, given the complete lack of safety features.

According to the master craftsman, the entire project ended up costing about US$100,000 (A$151,300), or less than half of the price of a Mercedes-AMG G 63 in Australia, though at least in the latter you get a twin-turbo V8 engine and no risk of splinters in a crash.
