Toyota Australia is recalling its Tundra pickup as a fault affecting the rear brake lights may prevent drivers from restarting their vehicles.
"The involved vehicles are equipped with a Towing Converter Relay used to control vehicle and trailer rear lamps," the company says in its recall notice.
"A wire within the Towing Converter Relay may be insufficiently insulated leaving a terminal pin visible through the insulation tape. The exposed terminal pin may short on the cabin back panel, causing the stop lights to be inoperative and the brake override warning message to be displayed.
"As a consequence, once the vehicle has been turned off it is not possible to restart the vehicle due to the smart start system requirement for a stop signal.
"Inoperative stop lights may cause other drivers to be unaware when an involved vehicle is braking, increasing the risk of a collision which may result in injury or death."

If you own an affected vehicle, you'll need to schedule an appointment with an authorised Toyota dealer to have the fix carried out, free of charge.
Dealers will repair affected Tundras by reworking the terminal pin and re-insulating the wire to the main wire harness.
Toyota Australia says the inspection and repair will take approximately an hour per vehicle, however, depending on dealer work schedules you may need to make your Tundra available for longer.
If you have any further questions, you can contact your preferred Toyota dealer or call the Toyota Recall Campaign Helpline on 1800 987 366 between 8:00am and 7:00mpm AEST on weekdays.
