Peugeot slashes prices by up to $27,000 as French brand remains in limbo in Australia

Peugeot is offering significant discounts across its passenger car and commercial van range as its Australian distributorship remains in limbo.

Last month, current distributor Inchcape announced it would relinquish distribution rights to the brand in Australia after just over nine years.

The local arm of Peugeot's global owner, Stellantis, has said the brand will remain in Australia despite failing to rescue fellow French marque Citroen, which exited the market after Inchcape ended its distributorship last year.

No official date for the Inchcape handover has been announced, as Stellantis weighs up whether to appoint another local distributor or take over Peugeot's Australian operations itself.

Earlier this year, Stellantis named Peugeot as one of its four key global brands alongside Jeep, Ram and Fiat.

It already operates Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Jeep in Australia, while other Stellantis brands sold here include Ram and Maserati, both of which are distributed by independent Sydney-based importer Ateco Automotive.

In the meantime, Inchcape is offering significant discounts on Peugeot vehicles it holds in stock as it winds down its involvement with the marque.

Not every model has been discounted, but those included in the campaign have received substantial price cuts. The biggest saving is almost $27,000 on the E-Expert electric van, while the prices of several passenger models have been reduced by more than $10,000.

The E-Expert Pro long wheelbase (LWB) electric van headlines the offers at $56,990 drive-away, representing a saving of $26,805 and undercutting the Ford E-Transit, which is priced from $77,890 before on-road costs.

The diesel-powered Expert has also been discounted, with the Expert Pro short wheelbase (SWB) now priced at $43,990 drive-away, a saving of $7795.

The larger Boxer van, which rivals the Ford Transit and Renault Master, has had $13,125 cut from the price of the Boxer Pro LWB diesel automatic, which is now available for $49,990 drive-away.

Passenger car savings include $7180 off the 2008 Hybrid Allure, which is now priced at $37,990 drive-away, while the 2008 Hybrid GT is available from $39,990 drive-away, marking a saving of $12,905.

The 3008 Hybrid GT Premium is priced at $56,990 drive-away, down $11,350, while the 5008 Hybrid GT Premium is available for $59,990 drive-away, representing a saving of $11,440.

The 308 Hybrid GT hatch has also been reduced to $42,990 drive-away, a saving of $8874.

The terms and conditions do not limit the offers to a specific model year.

Peugeot passenger vehicles are covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and five years of roadside assistance, while commercial vehicles receive a five-year/200,000km warranty.

The E-Expert is backed by an eight-year/160,000km warranty for its high-voltage battery.
