Australia’s newest motoring event is much more than just another Sunday gathering for coffee and cars.

The Noosa Concours on July 15 is modelled on the world-famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in the USA.

It will even be launched by Sandra Button, the chairman of the California concours.

The plan for the Noosa Concours is for it to become an annual headline motoring event, with backing from the Hastings Street Association and the Noosa Shire Council which have organised to close the city’s central boulevard – Hastings Street – for the inaugural event.

The event will see a field of rare and exotic cars on display, as well as some rare Australian motorsport cars.

Two of Australia’s earliest racing cars, which hit 85 mph (136.7km/h) on Southport beach in Queensland on Christmas Day in 1916, will be part of the special A Panorama of Performance during the concours.

The objective for the Noosa Concours is to emulate the appeal of the Pebble Beach event, which is why Ms Button has agreed to do the official opening.

Pebble Beach is staged on the 18th fairway of the historic golf course of the same name, at Monterey in California.

Each August it attracts a sell-out, ticket-only attendances of more than 15,000 spectators to celebrate the art and artistry of the automobile, as well as classic marques, engineering breakthroughs and successful racing cars.

The Noosa Concours will feature dozens of cars, old and new, at the northern end of Hastings Street in the Noosa Woods.
