Mercedes-Benz Australia is recalling a total of 50 examples of the E-Class and S-Class due to a problem with its driver assistance system that might not detect when the driver’s hands are removed from the steering wheel.
This recall affects E-Class and S-Class models sold in 2021.
“Due to a defect, the driver assistance system may not detect when the driver’s hands are removed from the steering wheel and will not warn the driver or perform an autonomous stop,” said the company in its recall notice.
“If the vehicle continues to operate without driver intervention, it may increase the likelihood of a crash resulting in injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to contact your nearest authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule in a time for a free fix. You can also book in a time online here.
If you have any further questions you can contact the Mercedes-Benz customer assistance centre on 1300 300 896.
