Kia is recalling its 2012-14 XM Sorento due to a defect that could lead to a vehicle fire.

“The heater core element may operate at a higher than intended temperature causing damage to the electrical connector. If this occurs it may result in a vehicle fire,” the company says in its recall notice.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants or other road users.”

  • A total of 6006 XM-series Sorento SUVs from 2012 to 2014 are affected
  • The VIN list is attached here
  • The original recall notice is attached here

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to make an appointment at a Kia dealership to have a free inspection and repair undertaken.

A technician will replace the heater control relay and, if necessary, the heater core element and connector.

If you have any further questions, you can contact Kia on 131 542.
