iCaur V25 EV to lead Chery brand's Australian launch, V27 and V25 EREVs to follow

Chery’s iCaur will start with the electric V25 before adding two range-extender SUVs, with its first Australian arrival tipped for early 2027.

The electric iCaur V25 SUV will lead the Chery-owned brand’s Australian launch, followed by the larger iCaur V27 extended-range electric (EREV) SUV and an EREV version of the V25.

iCaur Australia product manager Derek Tian detailed the rollout to Australian media, including CarExpert, in China. The V25 was previously confirmed for an early-2027 Australian launch.

“The V25 BEV will launch first,” Mr Tian said. Asked which model would follow, he replied: “Then V27 EREV.”

“I can't give you a confirmed month, but maybe the end of the first quarter,” Mr Tian said of the launch timing.

“The V23 may come in the future,” he said of iCaur's smaller electric SUV.

The Chinese-market V25 EREV measures 4636mm long, 1920mm wide, and 1855mm tall on a 2820mm wheelbase, placing it in the same broad size class as the Toyota RAV4. Despite its upright body, round headlights, and tailgate-mounted spare wheel, it uses car-like unibody construction.

Mr Tian said the Australian-bound electric V25 would have an 80kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by CATL.

“WLTP range is about 368km,” he said.

In overseas specification, the larger V27 measures 5045mm long, 1976mm wide, and 1894mm tall, with a 2900mm wheelbase. It's longer than the Denza B5.

The dual-motor version produces 335kW of power and 505Nm of torque, with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 5.9 seconds. It has a 34kWh battery offering a claimed 150km of electric-only driving range, and a total range of up to 995km (NEDC).

Both EREVs use electric motors to drive the wheels, with a petrol engine generating electricity. They can also be plugged in to recharge, making them a type of plug-in hybrid.

Before these EREVs arrive here, though, the electric V25 will be launched, with Mr Tian confirming, “The V25 BEV's road testing in Australia is finished."

On the testing program, Mr Tian distinguished general vehicle checks from work on advanced driver assistance (ADAS) and automatic parking (APA) systems.

“For identifying small issues, 30,000km. For ADAS and APA, 15,000km,” he said.

“I can't tell you our supplier's name, but we are working with an Australian supplier and our Chinese engineers,” he added.

iCaur has already begun recruiting dealers for a sales and service network separate from Chery.

Mr Tian also addressed how iCaur’s premium positioning would distinguish it from Chery.

“Our iCaur materials and specifications are higher than Chery's,” he said.

The V25 will enter a mid-size electric SUV market that also includes the Geely EX5, Tesla Model Y, and BYD Sealion 7, although the V25’s unique shape will undoubtedly attract a very different buyer.

On pricing, Mr Tian said: “We are still researching the V25's price range. We need a good price for Australia.”
