Forthing Australia will recall 263 examples of the Forthing Electric – previously known as the Taikon 5 – produced in 2026 to rectify an issue which may cause a loss of drive.
"Due to a manufacturing defect, the drive motor high-voltage power cable may rub against its mounting bracket during normal vehicle operation and become damaged. This may result in a loss of motive power while driving," the company says in its recall notice.
“A loss of motive power while driving increases the risk of an accident, resulting in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users."
Revealed for Australia earlier this year as the Taikon 5, the electric SUV is now sold as the Forthing Electric following legal action by German carmakers Porsche and Volkswagen over the Taikon 5 name. The legal action appears to be ongoing.
The range-extender version has also been renamed Forthing Range Extender Hybrid, but isn't included in this recall.

Forthing Australia will contact owners of affected vehicles to arrange an inspection and repair at an authorised dealer, free of charge.
Owners can also contact Forthing Australia on (02) 8577 8800.
The Toyota RAV4-sized SUV is the brand’s first model offered in Australia. The Forthing Electric is priced from $38,990 drive-away, with the Range Extender Hybrid starting at $2000 less.
