Cupra has confirmed its updated Leon Sportstourer will come Down Under.
The facelifted wagon revealed this morning is on track to arrive in the middle of 2025, at which point it will help fill the void left by the now-defunct Golf R wagon in the Volkswagen Group’s Australian lineup.
Along with the all-wheel drive hero model revealed this morning, packing 245kW and 420Nm from its four-cylinder turbocharged engine, it’s possible we’ll see a plug-in hybrid option with 200kW of power and 100km of electric range.
It’s unlikely a full range of engines will be offered in the Sportstourer locally.

Cupra Australia product planning boss Jeff Shafer confirmed it will be a “more high-end offering”, given wagons tend to be a “niche” corner of the Australian market.
“It’s a niche that’s interesting to us as Cupra,” Mr Shafer told media.
“I think this is the strength of Cupra the brand, we don’t need to be chasing volume in the way that a mainstream, mass-market brand needs to. We can choose our territory to go after it.
“I think that the volume is going to be fairly limited – but I’m also prepared to be surprised.”

Rivals for the Leon Sportstourer are thin on the ground, given the Golf R wagon is dead locally.
The Skoda Octavia isn’t offered with all-wheel drive or plug-in hybrid power, while the Subaru WRX Sportswagon isn’t as performance-focused as the Leon.
The arrival of the Sportstourer is part of a broader Cupra brand expansion in Australia.
It’ll launch after the updated Leon hatchback and Formentor SUV, and will sit alongside the new Tavascan and Terramar SUVs in local showrooms.
