New South Wales (NSW) electric car buyers looking to cash in on the state government’s soon-to-be-axed subsidies are being offered a lifeline by BYD’s local distributor, EVDirect.
Anyone who purchases an Atto 3from the BYD Megastore in Alexandria, NSW before December 31, 2023, will have access to a dedicated team to help apply for the $3000 rebate.
Atop the government rebate, the distributor is offering an additional $500 rebate to anyone who buys an Atto 3 SUV and takes delivery before December 31 – taking the total discount to $3500.

The NSW subsidies have been limited to 25,000 in total since their debut, which means they may run out before December 31.
As it did in Victoria before the premature end of its electric car subsidies, EVDirect will prioritise supply to New South Wales buyers keen to cash in on the rebates. Regardless of where you live, the EVDirect website currently says you can have an Atto 3 delivered in November or December this year.
The Atto 3 line-up kicks off at $48,001 before on-road costs, and extends to $51,011 before on-roads for the Extended Range.

“What we’ve uncovered is that many prospective EV buyers are not aware that the NSW rebate in capped at 25,000 across the state since it was first announced,” said the managing director and CEO of local BYD distributor, EVDirect.
“We expect purchasing activity to ramp up over the next six weeks as a result of its wind down, so we urge those considering going electric, to get in fast to avoid disappointment,” Mr Todd said.
The Atto 3 is Australia’s third most popular electric car behind the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, with 9618 deliveries to date in 2023.
