2027 Range Rover GT: New electric coupe SUV previewed, hybrid option planned

JLR has previewed the Range Rover GT, a sleek electric coupe SUV, which will become the fifth member of the Range Rover lineup.

While JLR Australia has yet to confirm whether the GT will come here, Land Rover New Zealand has locked in the new electric vehicle (EV) for a launch across the ditch in 2027.

It's the first vehicle on the Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA), which has been engineered primarily for EVs. While the model will be launched exclusively as an EV, Range Rover has confirmed variants with a hybrid powertrain – as opposed to a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) – are planned later in its lifecycle.

The GT will join the Range Rover Sport Electric and Range Rover Electric, both due in Australia in 2027, giving the Range Rover brand a total of three distinct electric offerings. The Evoque and Velar complete Range Rover's five-model lineup.

Land Rover says the GT has been developed to offer "beautiful and engaging GT poise" without sacrificing the off-road capability expected of the brand.

Although technical specifications remain under wraps, Range Rover says the GT will become its "most technologically sophisticated" model yet.

The larger Range Rover Electric and Range Rover Sport Electric, which sit on the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA), will feature an 800V electrical architecture, dual-motor all-wheel drive, and a 118kWh battery using module-less prismatic nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) cells.

While the exterior remains camouflaged as development testing continues, Range Rover has offered the first preview of the cabin.

The interior adopts an even more minimalist approach than today's Range Rover models, with a large, landscape-oriented infotainment touchscreen and a slim, high-mounted digital instrument cluster.

A full-width concealed air vent stretches across the dashboard, while speakers are hidden behind a woven textile covering designed to reduce visual clutter.

Range Rover says the emphasis is on creating a quieter, calmer cabin with fewer distractions and more intuitive controls.

The company also claims the GT will offer class-leading rear-seat leg room despite its more sporting silhouette.

Range Rover managing director Martin Limpert says the GT has been designed to reinterpret the traditional grand tourer.

"The Range Rover GT will redefine the grand-touring segment with the ability to deliver beautiful and engaging GT poise, proportions and long-distance refinement while offering capabilities no conventional GT can match," he said in a release.

"Its blend of effortless EV performance, first-class long-haul refinement and all-terrain capability is pure Range Rover."

Prototype vehicles are now completing final validation testing ahead of the production reveal later this year.
