    2027 Isuzu D-Max, MU-X facelift debuts new twin-turbo diesel

While the visual updates are quite minor, the Isuzu D-Max and MU-X are now available in Thailand with a new 2.2-litre bi-turbo diesel engine.

Isuzu is keeping its D-Max ute and MU-X SUV fresh with a small visual update, and a new bi-turbo diesel engine option.

Both the facelifted D-Max and MU-X range made their debut over the weekend in Thailand, where they are produced for both local and international markets, including Australia.

The main mechanical change is the availability of a new Bi-Turbo engine in high-spec trims of both cars.

Based on the 2.2-litre Ddi Maxforce turbo-diesel launched globally in late 2024, the new Bi-Turbo variant cranks out 150kW of power at 3600rpm, and 500Nm of torque between 1600 and 2600rpm.

The new engine features a high pressure (250MPa) 10-hole injector system, and is hooked up to a six-speed manual or a retuned eight-speed automatic transmission.

By comparison, the existing single-turbo version, which is currently available in the local D-Max range, is rated at just 120kW and 400Nm.

The updated D-Max can be identified by its selection of lightly revised front fascias. Some models include a colour-coded blade for the fog light surround and have a slightly smaller grille. Across the board there are new designs for the grille inserts, including one version with three rectangular ports near the leading edge of the bonnet.

The closely-related MU-X SUV has also been given a visual tweak to welcome twin-turbo engine to the family.

For the vast majority of MU-X variants, the changes seem limited to a new grille insert featuring twin horizontal bars that are much closer together, and a redesigned rear diffusers.

The range-topping RS model, on which our X-Terrain variant is based, also gains a new fog light surround that's entirely finished in gloss black, a new 'Supreme Onyx Grille', and a lime green highlight colour, which adorns the wheel caps, badges, interior stitching and the new arrow blade in the headlight cluster.

In Thailand the updated D-Max and MU-X range will begin appearing in showrooms at the end of October.
