The Hyundai Inster range has been pared back for the 2027 model year, with the mid-spec Extended Range version dropped and prices cut by $1500 on what’s now a two-model lineup.
Previously, the range comprised the entry-level Inster Standard Range, the more powerful and longer-range Inster Extended Range, and the flagship Inster Cross, with the larger battery and more powerful motor of the Extended Range but unique styling and equipment.
The 2027 Inster range kicks off at $37,500 before on-roads for the Inster Standard Range, although Hyundai currently has a $35,990 drive-away offer on its website, valid until December 31, 2026.
While the mid-spec Extended Range has been dropped, the Inster Cross remains the top-spec model and has been given the same $1500 reduction to start at $43,500 before on-road costs.

It too currently has a drive-away offer of $41,990 until December 31, 2026.
Hyundai Australia told CarExpert the mid-spec Inster Extended Range was dropped after slower sales than the remaining model grades.
The price cut comes as the Honda Super-One, priced from $36,900 drive-away, arrives in local showrooms with waiting lists of up to 12 months.
It also follows the introduction of a special offer on the similarly sized BYD Atto 1 electric hatch, with the entry-level Essential now available for $19,990 drive-away. The four-seat Essential has a claimed 220km WLTP range and, at that promotional price, is Australia’s equal-cheapest new car alongside the MG 3 hatch.

No other changes have been made to the Inster, the pint-sized four-seat EV having been introduced to Australia in April 2025.
For the Standard Range, this means the same 71kW/147Nm single electric motor driving the front wheels, with a 42kWh nickel-manganese cobalt (NMC) battery for a claimed 327km of WLTP range.
The Inster Cross runs the more powerful 85kW/147Nm single-motor powertrain and bigger 49kWh NMC battery, which was also offered in the Extended Range, and comes with 360km of claimed WLTP range.
Standard equipment across the range includes LED headlights, keyless entry and start, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, embedded satellite navigation with over-the-air updates, a wireless phone charger and a subscription to Hyundai’s Bluelink connected services.

The Inster Cross adds exterior cladding, 17-inch alloy wheels and leatherette upholstery with seats able to fold completely flat. The optional roof basket, which dropped range to 293km, is no longer available.
Sales of the Inster have almost doubled year-on-year, with 547 deliveries to the end of August 2026, ahead of the Mini Cooper Electric’s 207 but well behind the cheaper BYD Atto 1, with 3838 sales.
