2027 Audi Q3 brings tech and equipment updates, Australian timing unclear

It may have only just hit the road in Australia, but the new-generation Audi Q3 has already received some running updates in Europe, where it's scheduled to commence production in September.

Headline upgrades include the availability of a 10.9-inch passenger-side touch-screen, as is becoming increasingly prevalent across the German marque's lineup, enhanced driver-assistance systems with connected vehicle integration, and a simplified range structure in Europe.

In a statement supplied to CarExpert, an Audi Australia spokesperson said: "We don’t have a confirmed timeline for this in Australia, but we will be sure to reach out once we do have an indication on timing or rollout. MY27 will come eventually, of course, but we don’t have a set introduction date at this stage".

The 27MY Audi Q3 receives an increased level of standard equipment in its home region, including convenience key (keyless access), heated front seats, dual-zone climate control and a reversing camera now standard – previously, these features were not standard in numerous European markets.

Audi has also restructured its options range, following the Volkswagen Group's recent announcements around simplification of its model lineups, with the Q3 now offering Tech, Tech plus and Tech pro packages, which are more clearly defined alongside a "wider array of individual options".

Said option packs, depending on which one you choose, can include suspension upgrades, acoustic window glazing, Sonos premium audio, lumbar support, and hold assist (auto hold).

The adaptive cruise assist system can now use online data "to adjust speed and following distances" and, for the first time, uses connected-car swarm data "to assist with longitudinal and lane guidance".

Audi's automated Park assist pro and trained parking features can now be controlled remotely via the myAudi smartphone app.

There's also a new Valet Mode which locks the touchscreen and buttons when the vehicle is handed over to a valet service, to protect personal data embedded in the infotainment system or user profiles.

Speaking of infotainment, the 27MY Audi Q3 lineup moves to the Volkswagen Group's latest Android Automotive software architecture, bringing enhanced app compatibility – such as Microsoft Teams, apparently – directly to the MMI interface.

The updated Q3 range gets an updated wireless smartphone charger that supports the 'Magnetic Power Profile standard', upping power from 15 to 25 Watts. Rear-seat passengers also get three USB-C outlets with up to 100W of charging capacity.

Audi has also updated the steering wheel in the Q3 to include haptic rollers in among the touch-capacitive haptic multifunction controls, following similar changes made to larger models in the lineup including the A5, Q5, A6 and Q6 e-tron families.

Further, Q3 e-hybrid PHEV variants are now rated to tow up to 2.0 tonnes in Europe, an increase of 600kg over the previous model. An Australian introduction for the plug-in Q3 range is still to be locked in.

While Audi Australia is unable to confirm exact release timing for the 2027 Q3 and Q3 Sportback range yet, an "early September" production start date likely means we won't see these vehicles trickle into local showrooms until sometime next year.

Also, given fellow VW Group subsidiary Cupra recently confirmed it's working on a full suite of factory-backed connected services for Australia, it wouldn't be illogical to expect Audi to time the updated Q3 with the launch of local connectivity, given some of its new features rely on such functionality.
