2026 Cupra Leon Ve prices: Updated Spanish PHEV hatch gets much more range

A plug-in hybrid version of Cupra's updated Leon Hatch is due on sale here in June, with more range than before but less power.

The rollout of updated Cupra Leons – and the Spanish brand's new-generation plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system – is now complete in Australia.

The Cupra Leon Ve is available to order now, ahead of showroom arrivals and first customer deliveries starting in June.

It’s priced at $62,990 before on-road costs ($66,490 to $69,490 drive-away depending on the state), which makes it $16,000 more expensive than the base 110kW mild-hybrid S hatchback and just $2000 less than the hot 221kW VZx.

However, it’s only $1300 more expensive than the pre-facelift VZe hatchback, despite a new powertrain bringing more electric range.

It uses a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with the same 110kW/250Nm outputs as the old 1.4-litre, plus an electric motor that still produces 85kW and 330Nm.

Total system outputs drop from 180kW/400Nm to 150kW and 350Nm, respectively, with the 0-100km/h sprint now taking a claimed 7.7 seconds – a second slower than the old VZe.

While from a performance point of view the Ve takes a backwards step, it has received a huge boost in range.

Packing a larger 20kWh (usable) lithium-ion battery, up from 12.8kWh, electric range has almost doubled from 67km to 123km on the WLTP cycle.

Combined-cycle fuel consumption also drops from 1.8L/100km to 1.4L/100km, while the peak AC charge rate is bumped from 3.6kW to 11kW. The Leon Ve can also be charged using DC power, while Mode 2 and Mode 3 charging cables come standard.

As with the rest of the updated Leon range, there’s a new “shark-nose” front-end design with triangular daytime running lights.

The Ve rides on 18-inch ‘Garbi’ alloy wheels previously seen on the Leon V Tribe Edition.

Inside, there’s a larger 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with climate control sliders underneath that are now illuminated.

The system continues to feature satellite navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Standard equipment also includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charger, heated Cupra Supersport steering wheel and tri-zone climate control.

Unlike the VZe it replaces, which came standard with cloth-trimmed seats with manual adjustment, the Ve features Dinamica-appointed sports bucket seats with power adjustment and memory for the driver.

The rollout of the updated Leon range commenced in Australia late in 2025, with the Ve – replacing the old VZe – following mild-hybrid hatchback and PHEV wagon models.

Cupra now offers PHEV powertrains across its entire combustion-powered range, apart from the Ateca mid-size SUV which is being phased out.

The Leon Ve joins the Leon VZe Sportstourer, as well as the Formentor VZe – a facelifted version of which arrived here last month – plus the Terramar VZe launched here last year.

It’s the only one of these with a total system output of 150kW, with the others featuring a more powerful 200kW PHEV powertrain.
