The BYD Atto 1 has been named Australia’s best affordable electric vehicle (EV) in the second annual CarExpert Choice Awards.
BYD's pint-size electric hatchback beat out the MG 4 hatch and the GAC Aion V mid-size SUV to claim our affordable EV award.
Arguably the most show-stopping aspect of the Atto 1 is its base price. It starts at just $23,990 before on-road costs, making it $6000 cheaper than the next most affordable EV, the BYD Dolphin. But the Atto 1 is more than just a cheap set of wheels.
Looking for your next car? We'll help you research and compare so you choose with confidence.

Its pint-size dimensions belie a surprisingly well-packaged, distinctive and comfortable interior with excellent visibility. Okay, we might ding it for having only four seats, but find us a city car in which you'd want to put someone in the centre rear seat anyway.
There's a big 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, even in the base Essential variant. Stepping up to the Premium brings niceties like a high-resolution surround-view camera system and heated and power-adjustable front seats, though the base grade is far from a poverty pack.
The entry-level Essential has a 65kW/175Nm electric motor and a 30kWh battery offering 220km of WLTP range; the Premium ups these figures to 115kW, 220Nm and 310km, respectively.

Those range figures mightn't seem huge but, for a vehicle designed primarily for urban commuting, that is sufficient range. DC fast-charging capacity is between 65kW and 85kW, depending on the variant.
While you're on your daily commute, you'll notice the Atto 1's smooth torque delivery, quiet cabin, and well-calibrated steering and brakes.
With even the top-spec Premium sliding in under $28,000 before on-road costs, the Atto 1 is sensational value for money and ideal for buyers after an EV for the daily commute.
