Genesis has pulled the covers off of not only a refreshed version of its Electrified G80 sedan, but also a high-performance Magma version.

The Genesis G80 EV Magma Concept was revealed at this week’s Beijing motor show alongside its tamer sibling, which CarExpert understands is due here early in 2025.

It follows the recent reveal of the G80 Magma Concept, a tuned version of the brand’s BMW 5 Series rival that’s set to be offered only in the Middle East.

It’s unclear how many markets the production version of this new electric version will be offered in.

Genesis hasn’t revealed technical specifications, so it’s unclear if there have been any changes to its 272kW/700Nm dual-motor all-wheel drive electric powertrain.

The company has, however, confirmed it features “wider track-tuned suspension” to improve roadholding and cornering, while there are bigger brakes.

It rides on lightweight 21-inch wheels with staggered tyre widths, which sit under wider fenders, and Genesis has also lowered the ride height.

Cosmetic changes include a redesigned front grille, a rear diffuser and ducktail spoiler for optimised airflow, and a new rear bumper for a “more commanding presence on the road” which features an integrated fog light “reminiscent of iconic racing cars”.

Inside, there’s Alcantara and quilted leather upholstery, as well as carbon-fibre inserts with a blue weave.

“The introduction of Genesis Magma to China signifies our expansion into a new frontier of the driving experience,” said SangYup Lee, Head of Genesis Global Design.

“G80 EV Magma Concept is a stunning expression of both our design and engineering capabilities, as well as our commitment to meet the ever-evolving needs of Chinese consumers in pursuit of ultimate performance, represented by the beautiful and China-exclusive Acme Blue.”

Speaking of blue, the refreshed Electrified G80 was also revealed in Beijing with a new colour aimed at Chinese buyers: Vision Blue, derived from the noble blue colour in Chinese culture.

As with its combustion-powered counterparts, the updated Electrified G80 gets a restyled grille and headlights with Micro Lens Array technology, plus a refreshed front bumper.

The big news here, however, is the increase in size: the wheelbase has been stretched by 130mm.

Luxury car brands commonly do this in this segment for the Chinese market, with examples being the Jaguar XF L and Audi A7 L, rather than force buyers to step up to the next segment.

It’s unclear if this extended-length body will be offered outside of China.

Genesis says the extra length makes the Electrified G80 more closely resemble the brand’s BMW 7 Series-rivalling G90 sedan.

The dish-style 19-inch wheels are also reminiscent of those offered on the G90, while there’s additional chrome trim.

Inside, there are reclining rear seats with leg rests, memory, and massaging functionality. The rear doors have a quilted garnish inside and an easy-close function.

There’s an electronically opening and closing charging port cover outside.

Genesis says it has further reduced noise, vibration and harshness, while the Electrified G80 benefits from the changes made to the refreshed petrol-powered G80.

These include a 27-inch OLED display incorporating the digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen, plus a 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.

The Electrified G80 is one of three electric Genesis models at the moment, and one of two – the Electrified GV70 being the other – based on a combustion vehicle platform.

Genesis sold just 11 Electrified G80s in Australia last year, against 44 BMW i5s and 437 Mercedes-Benz EQEs.

Only limited imagery is available of the Electrified G80 and its Magma version. We’ll update this article when more becomes available.
