The Cupra Leon hatchback range will pick up a more efficient new engine at the bottom end of the range, and a new 245kW flagship wagon model when it hits Australia in 2025.
Petrol-powered versions of the facelifted Leon hatch are due in Australia in the second quarter of 2025, with plug-in hybrids following mid-year along with the Leon Sportstourer wagon.
The updated Leon will feature a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, shared with the Formentor, with 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque, mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch auto and a 48V mild-hybrid system designed to deliver smoother start/stop operation.
Sitting above it in the range will be a 150kW petrol engine, and a 200kW plug-in hybrid good for 100km of electric driving.

As is the case with the Formentor, the VZ – which shares its 180kW engine with the Volkswagen Golf GTI – is likely to be axed for 2025.
Topping the hatchback range will be a front-wheel drive VZx with 221kW of power, as is currently the case.
As for the Sportstourer? When it touches down in the middle of 2025, it will be pitched as a more “high-end” proposition than the hatchback due to limited wagon demand locally.
Expect to see the flagship VZx packing 245kW of power and all-wheel drive, and a 200kW plug-in hybrid.

Cupra has introduced a number of performance-oriented options with this Leon update, led by a set of racier bucket-style seats.
They’re a chance to come to Australia, given they feature on the Born VZ set to touch down later this year.
Also a chance are the optional Akebono performance brakes revealed as part of the update.
Beyond the overhauled engines, the Leon range has been treated to a new look and a freshened interior.

There’s a new 12.9-inch touchscreen atop the dashboard, complete with backlit touch sliders and an interface designed to make key functions easier to access.
