Interested in a Toyota LandCruiser 70?

Toyota Australia has detailed pricing for its updated LandCruiser 70 Series range ahead of vehicles arriving in showrooms this November.

The range now opens at $75,600 before on-roads for the LandCruiser 76 Series Wagon WorkMate with the new 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel. This is $4600 more than where the pre-update range started.

The LandCruiser 70 Series range now extends all the way to $87,600 before on-roads for the LandCruiser 79 Series double-cab chassis GXL with the 4.5-litre V8 turbo-diesel. This is $8400 more than the pre-update model.

As part of the update Toyota has introduced the “tried-and-tested” 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine which produces 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque. It’s available exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission, which is a first for the iconic model.

The 1VD-FTV 4.5-litre V8 turbo-diesel is still available in the updated LandCruiser 70 Series. It’s offered on almost every single variant, apart from the entry-level 76 Series Wagon WorkMate, which can only be had with the new 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel.

LandCruiser 70 Series models with the 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine are $4100 cheaper than ones equipped with the 4.5-litre V8 turbo-diesel engine.

Automatic transmission-equipped models feature a power/haul mode, as well as a second start switch which starts the vehicle in second gear for better traction.

A transmission guard adds extra underbody protection for the oil pan, while the breather hose has been raised to 900mm to assist water crossing performance.

At the front the updated LandCruiser 70 Series has new heritage-inspired circular LED headlights with automatic high-beam.

A black mesh grille with a heritage-inspired bonnet and turn signals, dark grey alloy wheels and overfenders are added on 76 and 79 Series GX and GXL models.

Inside, the updated LandCruiser 70 Series has a new 6.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice recognition and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

There’s also a 4.2-inch instrument cluster screen, new-look speedometer and tachometer.

GXL grades gain two new USB-C ports in place of the existing 12V, while the 76 Series Wagon gains a reversing camera.

All models get lane departure warning, speed sign recognition and automatic high-beam. This follows the standardisation of autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection across the range for 2023.

    Powertrains

The 2024 Toyota LandCruiser range is now available with a choice of two different turbo-diesel engines.

Almost all variants can be had with the “tried-and-tested” 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine which produces 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque. This is mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The other available powertrain is the familiar 1VD-FTV 4.5-litre V8 turbo-diesel engine which produces 151kW of power and 430Nm of torque. This is mated exclusively to a five-speed manual transmission.

All LandCruiser 70 Series models come with a part-time four-wheel drive system with a low-range transfer case.

Locking front and rear differentials are available on GX models and standard on GXL models.

    Efficiency

Claimed fuel economy is 9.6 litres per 100km on the combined cycle in the four-cylinder, and 10.7 litres per 100km in the V8.

    Dimensions

Toyota Australia hasn’t detailed the exterior dimensions of the 2024 LandCruiser 70 Series at this stage, though the pre-update model measured in as follows:

    • Length – up to 5230mm
    • Width – up to 1870mm
    • Height – up to 1970mm

The entire LandCruiser 70 Series range has a braked towing capacity of 3500kg. Payload is up to 1380kg, depending on the variant.

    Servicing and Warranty

The Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series has the same five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty as the broader Toyota range, extended to seven years on the powertrain if you keep up with the scheduled services.

Maintenance is required every 10,000km or six months, whichever comes first. For a car that’s relied upon by so many, having to visit your dealership twice yearly is a big miss.

The first 10 services each cost $525 in the both models.

    Safety

The LandCruiser 70 Series was tested by ANCAP back in 2016 and received five stars, however this was for the single cab-chassis variant only.

It received a front offset score of 14.75 out of 16, a side impact score of 16 out of 16, a pole score of 2 out of 2, and a seat belt reminder score of 3 out of 3.

The 2024 Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series range comes with the following safety equipment:
