2023 Toyota Corolla Cross price and specs

Toyota’s newest SUV, the Corolla Cross, will be priced from $33,000 before on-road costs when it arrives Down Under in October 2022.

Opting for a front-wheel drive hybrid adds $2500 to the sticker price; the all-wheel drive hybrid powertrain is $3000 more expensive again.

Three trim levels will be offered, ranging from entry GX to flagship Atmos. The most expensive model, the Atmos Hybrid AWD, is priced at $49,050 before on-roads.

When it touches down, the Corolla Cross will take on the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-30, Subaru XV, and Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross among many others.

It slots between the smaller Yaris Cross and larger (and heavily in-demand) RAV4 in the Toyota range.

Engines

Power in the Toyota Corolla Cross comes from a choice of petrol or hybrid drivetrains.

The petrol-only unit is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 126kW of power and 202Nm of torque, sending power to the front wheels only through a CVT.

Both the front-wheel and all-wheel drive hybrids feature a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine under the bonnet, making 112kW and 190Nm, mated to an e-CVT.

In the front-wheel drive version, it’s mated with an electric motor making 83kW and 206Nm. The all-wheel drive additionally features a 30kW rear axle motor.

Hybrids features a 4.06Ah lithium-ion battery pack which Toyota says is 14 per cent lighter, and more powerful, than before.

Toyota quotes a combined power output of 146kW from the front- and all-wheel drive hybrids, but no combined torque output.

Fuel Economy

Claimed fuel economy in the petrol is 6.0L/100km (136g/km of CO2) on the combined cycle, and the car drinks 91 RON regular unleaded.

Claimed fuel economy in the front-wheel drive hybrid is 4.3L/100km (97g/km), while the all-wheel drive hybrid uses a claimed 4.4L/100km (101g/km).

Both drink 91 RON unleaded petrol.

The petrol has a 47L fuel tank; the front-wheel drive hybrid has a 36L tank; and the all-wheel drive hybrid has a 43L tank.

Dimensions

The Toyota Corolla Cross measures 4460mm long, 1825mm wide, and 1620mm tall, with a 2640mm wheelbase.

That makes it 70mm longer and 30mm wider than the C-HR, and 280mm longer and 60mm wider than a Yaris Cross.

The whole range has a 750kg braked towing capacity, and seating for five. The lightest model in the range is the GX 2WD petrol (1380kg), and the heaviest is the Atmos AWD Hybrid (1550kg).

Under the skin the range rides on a MacPherson strut front suspension. Front-wheel drive models feature a torsion beam rear, all-wheel drive models have a multi-link setup down back.

Safety

The Toyota Corolla Cross hasn’t been crash tested by Euro NCAP or ANCAP.

The Corolla Cross is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, which extends to seven years on powertrain components if the car is serviced using Toyota’s capped-price service program.

Maintenance is required every 12 months or 15,000 kilometres, and the first five services are capped at $230 each.
