Peugeot‘s dealers have sent out estimated pricing of the new 308 hatch and wagon range to prospective buyers, ahead of the majority of the range launching in the fourth quarter of 2022.

    Pricing for the 2023 Peugeot 308 range is set to start at $43,990 before on-road costs for the GT Hatch, and extend to $66,990 before on-road costs for the GT Sport Hatch Plug-In Hybrid.

    As indicated by Peugeot Australia managing director Kate Gillis, local pricing and specification will see the 308 compete at the premium end of the market.

    As such it will compete against vehicles such as the Cupra Leon, Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3, and Mercedes-Benz A-Class, as well as the new-gen Honda Civic.

    The previous-generation Peugeot 308 was discontinued locally in 2021 and cost between $31,490 drive-way for the Allure hatch and $36,490 for the GT-Line.

    That makes the new model a much more expensive proposition – although Peugeot is far from alone in taking this approach lately.

    This price disparity between the petrol-powered and plug-in hybrid model is very similar to the Peugeot 508 and 3008 models’ price lists.

    The single wagon variant, the Peugeot 308 GT Premium Wagon, is priced from $50,990 before on-road costs, which is $2000 more expensive than the equivalent hatch.

    Indicative pricing for the 2023 Peugeot 308 range is as follows

    • 2023 Peugeot 308 GT Hatch: $43,990
    • 2023 Peugeot 308 GT Premium Hatch: $48,990
    • 2023 Peugeot 308 GT Premium Wagon: $50,990
    • 2023 Peugeot 308 GT Sport Hatch Plug-In Hybrid: $66,990

    All prices are before on-road costs.

    Peugeot notes that final pricing will be published alongside the full list of standard specifications.

    In the meantime it has provided a short breakdown for the majority of the models.

    The entry-level Peugeot 308 GT Hatch receives a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED tail lights with a 3D ‘claw effect’ and welcome lighting sequence, Alcantara trim, as well as black full-grain Nappa leather upholstery with ‘Tramontane’ charcoal grey top stitching.

    On top of what’s standard on the GT Hatch, mid-spec GT Premium variants receive 18-inch black alloy wheels, panoramic glass sunroof, Focal premium sound system, heated front seats with a massage function, Nappa leather upholstery, surround-view camera, lane assist, and semi-autonomous parking.

    Peugeot hasn’t revealed any standard specification for the flagship GT Sport Hatch Plug-In Hybrid as of yet, but says that information will be “released in the coming months”.

    In terms of exterior paint colours, both the 308 hatch and wagon are available in six different colours, with each body style getting slightly different offerings.

    The 2023 Peugeot 308 is available in the following exterior paint colours, depending on the body style:

    • Olivine Green (Hatch only)
    • Vertigo Blue (Hatch only)
    • Avatar Blue (Wagon only)
    • Platinum Grey (Wagon only)
    • Nera Black
    • Artense Grey
    • Elixir Red
    • Pearl White

    The standard paint on the 308 hatch is Olivine Green, and the 308 wagon is Avatar Blue. All other paints cost an additional $690, besides Vertigo Blue, Elixir Red, and Pearl White, which cost an additional $1050.

    As previously reported, petrol-powered 308s use a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 96kW of power and 230Nm of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

    The 308 GT Sport Hatch Plug-In Hybrid uses a 132kW 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated with an 81kW electric motor and an eight-speed auto. Total system outputs are 165kW and 360Nm, while claimed EV range is 59km on the stricter WLTP cycle.

    Peugeot recently revealed all-electric versions of its 308 hatchback and wagon – and they’re on the cards to join the petrol and PHEV range in Australia at some point.

    Although not locked in for our market, Peugeot Australia managing director Kate Gillis said the e-308 reveal “is exciting and we can confirm the e-308 is under evaluation for the Australian market as part of our electrification journey”.

    Given it’s not hitting Europe until mid-2023, it’s unlikely we’ll see the e-308 locally for some time.
