With the hybrid on sale from December 1 and Type R deliveries beginning in February, the 11th-generation Honda Civic range will soon be complete.

    The hatch-only line-up opens at $47,200 drive-away for the VTi-LX, rising to $55,000 drive-away for the e:HEV LX hybrid and $72,600 drive-away for the Type R.

Notably, the Type R only has seating for four, while the others seat five.

While it’s the first time since 2015 that Honda has offered a hybrid Civic in Australia, the 11th-generation range is considerably more pared-back than its predecessor.

The sedan body style is no longer available locally, while the range opens above where most mainstream rivals like the Kia Cerato and Toyota Corolla top out. Gone are any sub-$40,000 variants, which represented the bulk of the 10th-generation range.

All variants are now sourced from Japan, and Honda is positioning the Civic as a lower-volume, more premium model.

    • 2023 Honda Civic VTi-LX: $47,200
    • 2023 Honda Civic e:HEV LX: $55,000
    • 2023 Honda Civic Type R: $72,600

    All prices are drive-away.

Each member of the 2023 Honda Civic range has a different powertrain.

The VTi-LX uses a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 131kW of power at 6000rpm and 240Nm of torque between 1700 and 4500rpm. It’s mated with a continuously variable transmission.

    The e:HEV LX uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, a lithium-ion battery, and an e-CVT. Total system outputs are 135kW (@5000-6000rpm) and 315Nm (@0-2000rpm).

The Type R uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 235kW of power at 6500rpm and 420Nm of torque between 2600 and 4000rpm. It’s mated with a six-speed manual transmission.

    All Civics are front-wheel drive.

The 2023 Honda Civic uses 6.3L/100km on the combined cycle in VTi-LX guise, 4.2L/100km in the e:HEV LX, and 8.9L/100km in the case of the Type R.

The Type R requires 95 RON premium unleaded fuel, but the others run on 91 RON.

The 2023 Honda Civic VTi-LX and e:HEV LX measure 4560mm long, 1802mm wide, 1415mm tall and ride a 2733mm wheelbase.

The Type R is slightly longer at 4606mm, wider at 1890mm, and lower at 1407mm tall. It also has wider tracks front and rear (1626mm/1614mm vs 1537mm/1577mm).

Tare mass is 1346kg in the VTi-LX, 1478kg in the e:HEV LX and 1429kg in the Type R.

The Civic VTi-LX has 449L of boot space (45L of this under the boot floor), expanding to 814L with the rear seats dropped (measured to the window) or 1212L (measured to the roof).

The e:HEV LX has 409L of boot space (5L of this under the boot floor) and 814L of space with the rear seats dropped (measured to the window) or 1187L (measured to the roof).

The Type R has 410L of luggage space, expanding with the rear seats down to 904L (measured to the window) or 1212L (measured to the roof).

Under the boot floor on each model is a tyre repair kit.

Each service is capped at $199.
