The updated Tiguan Allspace SUV is only now starting to arrive in Australia, but Volkswagen has already revealed a special edition.

The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Adventure is exclusive to the Australian market and offers features designed to make the SUV tougher and more practical. Although it’s based on the bigger Allspace body, the Adventure is actually a five-seater with a massive boot.

Priced from $51,990 before on-road costs, the Allspace Adventure is due to arrive in Volkswagen showrooms during August 2022.

Under the bonnet of this special edition Tiguan Allspace is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 162kW of power and 350Nm of torque.

    It’s mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with drive sent to a 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

Unlike regular Tiguan Allspace models with seven seats, the Adventure comes exclusively as a five-seater. This is the first time the Tiguan Allspace has been made available in this seating configuration for Australia, although it’s how the car is sold in the USA.

A by-product of the removal of the two third-row seats is the Adventure gets a bigger boot than regular Allspace models. With the second row of seats in place, it has a boot capacity of 760L – which is 60L more than the regular car.

The special edition also has “increased battery capacity” and a larger 180 A alternator that’s ideal for camping accessories.

Other notable features include 17-inch alloy wheels, underbody guards, sports suspension, progressive steering, direct tyre pressure monitor, tinted windows and heated front seats.

Tiguan Allspace Adventure customers also get the choice of one of the following accessory packages at no extra cost:

    • Snow chains, and all-weather front and rear floor mats
    • Rear sunblind set, and all-weather front and rear floor mats
    • Boot liner, loading protection plate, and all-weather front and rear floor mats

On the safety front, the Tiguan Allspace Adventure comes with the IQ.Drive suite that includes the following safety features:

    • Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection
    • Blind-spot monitoring
    • Rear cross-traffic alert
    • Adaptive cruise control

    • Adaptive lane guidance
    • Emergency assist
    • Semi-autonomous parking assist
    • Front and rear parking sensors

“With the largest boot volume ever offered on a Tiguan, among the most power in the segment plus tough underbody changes, the Allspace Adventure caters to on- and off-road thrill seekers,” said Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles brand director, Michal Szaniecki.
