To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin, “In this world, nothing is certain except death, taxes and special edition Minis.”

The German-owned British marque has revealed its second limited edition of the week with the Mini Paddy Hopkirk Edition.

The Paddy Hopkirk Edition is available to order now and just 65 will be offered across the Cooper S 3-door, 5-door and John Cooper Works Hatch lines.

Prices start at $54,800 before on-road costs for the Cooper S 3-door.

For those unfamiliar with Mr. Hopkirk, he drove a Mini Cooper S to victory in the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally, the first of three victories in that event for the original Mini.

The special edition should appeal to fans of Mini motorsport history, with the Paddy Hopkirk Edition dressed up to resemble that winning Mini in 1964.

That includes a Chili Red body with a white roof, black rally-style auxiliary headlights and the number 37 on the driver and passenger doors.

Hopkirk’s signature appears in various places on the car, including the tailgate, bonnet racing stripe, and entry sills, while his car’s number plate combination – 33 EJB – appears on the stripe in 3D effect graphics.

Of the 65 units being offered, 25 will be of the Cooper S 3-door, 25 of the Cooper S 5-door, and 15 of the John Cooper Works. All will be automatic.

Cooper S models get 17-inch John Cooper Works ‘Track’ wheels finished in black, while the John Cooper Works gets 18-inch ‘Style 506’ wheels finished in gloss black.

Cooper S models continue to use a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 141kW of power and 280Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The 3-door has a 0-100km/h time of 6.7 seconds and a combined fuel economy of 5.5L/100km, while the 5-door is 0.1 seconds slower and 0.1L/100km thirstier.

The John Cooper Works has 170kW of power and 320Nm of torque, good for a 0-100km/h time of 6.1 seconds and fuel economy of 6.0L/100km. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
