BMW M5 V8 power cut to meet new emissions regulations
The twin-turbo V8 used in the BMW M5 and XM will make less power for 2026, though their hybrid systems will receive a boost.

2023 BMW XM
The BMW XM, the M division’s new bespoke plug-in hybrid SUV flagship, will arrive in the first half of 2023 priced from $297,900 before on-road costs.
That makes it roughly $60,000 more expensive than the X6 M Competition, which also rolls off BMW’s Spartanburg, South Carolina production line, and over $30,000 more than an M5 sedan.
An even more expensive, more powerful Label Red flagship will follow later in 2023, with pricing and specifications to be announced closer to launch.
This model will boast total system outputs of 550kW and 1000Nm, up 70kW and 200Nm on the standard XM.
