2025 Toyota Mirai
The Toyota Mirai is a hydrogen fuel-cell sedan that demonstrated Toyota's alternative zero-emissions technology in Australia. It is no longer on sale as a regular new model locally, largely because public hydrogen refuelling infrastructure remains extremely limited. The Mirai drives much like an electric car, using hydrogen to generate electricity onboard and emitting only water vapour. Its appeal is technical and experimental more than mainstream, with quiet performance, long-range potential and fast refuelling where infrastructure exists. In Australia it has mainly served fleets, trials and technology showcases. The Mirai remains an important proof point for Toyota's broader view that future low-emissions transport may include more than battery-electric vehicles.
