The Rio entered 2024 with a simple job: deliver simple controls, compact sizing and value-focused ownership for shoppers who wanted the character of the nameplate rather than the newest or highest-volume option. Against rivals such as the Mazda 2, Suzuki Swift and Toyota Yaris, its role was more about familiarity and specific buyer needs than outright sales volume. The Kia Rio was a light hatchback that served as one of Kia's most affordable models in Australia. Buyers would also have looked at the Mazda 2, Suzuki Swift and Toyota Yaris.
