About the HR-V
Honda has just taken the wraps off the all-new Honda HR-V for the Australian market. Strangely, it's only offered in Australia as a four-seat vehicle due to a missing safety item.
Outside of that, there are two variants available with the range starting from $36,700 (drive away) and finishing at $45,000 (drive away) for the top-specification hybrid variant.
Two engine variants are available from launch:
The 2022 Honda HR-V Vi X is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 89kW of power at 6600rpm and 145Nm at 4300rpm. It’s mated with a continuously-variable transmission (CVT).
The e:HEV L uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid powertrain. Total outputs are 96kW (4000-8000rpm) and 253Nm (0-3500rpm). It’s mated to an e-CVT.

HR-V Range Guide
Honda will simplify the HR-V range for the Australian market with just two variants available for purchase. One is a hybrid, while the other is a conventional internal combustion version.
Strangely, Honda will only offer the HR-V in Australia as a four-seater. Honda wasn't able to offer a five-seat variant of the HR-V to the Australian market due to a missing safety item. CarExpert understands it's down to Australian Design Rules (ADR), which stipulate any rear seat with a seatbelt must also feature a top-tether point for a child seat.
It makes it unique to the segment given all other small SUVs are available with five seats for the Australian market.
Outside of this curious anomaly, the new HR-V takes a sexier approach to stylying and aims to appeal to a broader demographic with a sizeable increase in engine and interior technology.

Interior
The cabin has taken a big step forwards in terms of fit and finish and material use. Additionally, Honda has retained 'magic seats' in the vehicle that allow an added layer of configurability and storage.
New to the HR-V is a bigger infotainment system that's shared with the all-new Honda Civic, while the interior has increased in size to offer more space and a higher entry point for older buyers.
Exterior
The all-new Honda HR-V looks bigger from the outside and now sports a 195mm ground clearance - an increase of 25mm over the old one.
Dimentionally, it's also longer, wider and taller than the outgoing model. So when you spot the HR-V in traffic you'll notice that it looks much larger than the outgoing model.
This will be good news for buyers that were after a small SUV that is easier to get in to and out of. Visually, the exterior also looks much more modern now after receiving a sizeable facelift over the outgoing generation.

- Premium Crystal Red metallic
All colours are a no cost option.
Cost of Ownership
The first five services are capped at $125 each. Servicing is required every 12 months or 10,000km, whichever comes first.
HR-V Safety Rating
The all-new Honda HR-V is yet to be crash tested, but it comes standard with the following features:

HR-V Lifecycle
The current generation Honda HR-V was launched in April 2022 and is currently 30 percent through its lifecycle. The last update was a new variant that was launched in June 2022 with the next model expected in 2029.
HR-V Options
There are no factory options available for purchase. Honda sells a range of accessories though that can be added to the vehicle before and after delivery.
HR-V Warranty
All Hondas sold in Australia come with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, with an eight-year IMA battery module warranty for the hybrid.
HR-V Stock Availability
With the all-new HR-V just launching in Australia, stock is expected to be strong for the first 1-3 months following launch (May 2022). Stock levels may vary following the car's launch to the market.
HR-V Infotainment
The 9.0-inch infotainment system comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto.
The infotainment system is shared with the all-new Honda Civic. It's easy to use and is driven by a touchscreen with rotary dials for some functions.
There's also voice recognition and the ability to route voice commands through your smartphone's mirroring system.
In addition to these functions, there's satellite navigation, AM, FM and DAB+ digital radio. Finally, there are four speakers on the base model and six speakers on the top-specification hybrid variant.
HR-V Boot Space
Boot space measures 304L with the rear seats up, expanding to 956L with the rear seats folded measured to the window or 1274L measured to the roof. Under the boot floor is a tyre repair kit.
This boot size is, on paper, a lot smaller than before. The old model’s claim with five seats in use was 437L.
HR-V Fuel Economy
The 2022 Honda HR-V uses 5.8L/100km in Vi X guise and 4.3L/100km in the hybrid e:HEV L.
Both models have a 40L fuel tank and run on 91RON regular unleaded fuel.
